The bookkeeper also prepares quarterly financial situation reports, and any of the financial reporting requirements from our funders.

As the FBF treasurer, your responsibilities will include:
• Reviewing FBFs bank accounts monthly to ensure the transactions are valid and to perform the oversight function for the work of the bookkeeper.
• Presenting the quarterly financial situation updates to the Board
• Liaising with FBF’s accountants to initiate the annual audit of the financial statements
• Presenting the annual audited financial statements at the FBF Annual General Meeting (AGM)
• Reviewing the quarterly and financial reporting to our funders prepared by the bookkeeper and raising any issues or discrepancies to the bookkeeper and the Executive Director.

Board Director Requirements
Board Directors are responsible for upholding FBF’s vision and mission, setting the strategic direction of the organization, and ensuring the Executive Director and staff are effectively executing activities and delivering programs that will serve the best interests of the clients we serve. Responsibility for day-to-day management of FBF’s operations is delegated to the Executive Director.

Building strong relationships and goodwill with the community, including donors, community partners, volunteers, and clients, is a vital part of serving on FBF’s board. Board Directors are expected to support the organization’s initiatives and help it to achieve its goals.

This can include: participating in and promoting fundraising events and sharing details of FBF’s programs and services on social media; supporting FBF’s advocacy and public relations efforts; and building general awareness within their networks of FBF’s overall purpose and impact.

Responsibilities of Individual Directors
Board Directors are expected to be strongly committed to the organization as demonstrated via a high level of attendance and participation in Board and Committee meetings. In addition, Directors are expected to do their homework in advance of meetings in order to be prepared to address agenda items and be fully engaged in discussions and informed decision-making.

Additional expectations include but are not limited to:
• Making best efforts to participate, as required, in: strategic planning and orientation workshops; Board development workshops; seminars and other educational events that enhance their skills as Board members; and other special events (i.e., conferences, fundraising events, etc.)
• Being informed about and staying up-to-date on the organization’s mission, services, policies, and programs.
• Focusing on the discussions at hand and being prepared to deal with issues that may not be easily solvable.
• Actively supporting ongoing Fundraising efforts by helping to generate outside contributions or making a personal financial contribution to the organization.
• Suggesting possible nominees to the Board who can make significant contributions to the work of the Board and the organization.
• Keeping up-to-date on developments in the organization’s field.
• Following conflict-of-interest and confidentiality policies.
• Assisting the board in carrying out its fiduciary responsibilities, such as reviewing the organization’s financial statements, by-laws, policies, Terms of Reference, and Governance Manual.

Time Commitment
Board members are expected to attend a monthly meeting (2 hours) which is held virtually. In addition, there are 3 standing committees of the Board:
• Stewardship
• Connection
• Impact

Directors are expected to participate as committee members on at least one of the organization’s three committees and to attend the committee’s scheduled monthly meeting.

Directors may also be asked to participate on project committees that are established to deal with specific issues or develop initiatives on behalf of the Board. Project committees are created as/when necessary and exist for a limited time period.

At some point during their 3-year term and for the duration of one calendar year, Directors will be expected to assume the leadership (Team Lead) for at least one of the organization’s three committees and/or one of its projects (Project Lead).
