A reputable pipe manufacturer in Welland is looking for reliable and hard-working candidates to join their team!

We are seeking Material Handlers for our client in Welland. These positions are temporary to cover the leave of absences, however they could turn into full time roles.

Schedule: Rotating 12-hour continental shifts.

Wage: $23.05/hr plus $0.55 afternoon shift premium & $0.65 night shift premium. Overtime is paid after 40 hours a week.

Reporting to the Yard Manager. The Material Handler is responsible for all receiving, storage, and shipping of pipe through the various yard locations and production operations. The Material Handler is a key member of the facility’s Yard and Production teams and will undertake activities associated with the continuous improvement of personnel and equipment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Operate all material handling equipment such as, Taylor and CAT shunt trucks, forklifts, Bobcats, cranes, and other material handling equipment.
  • Daily shift start up inspections on equipment and follow up on prevention maintenance reports.
  • Operate radio frequency equipment and control all inventory transactions.
  • Participate and communicate with all personnel throughout the facility.
  • Unload and load single piece pipe on and off trailers, skid tables, and storage locations/racks.
  • Work with production schedules and understand the product flow through operations to maintain production flow.
  • Package loads for shipping and storage (lumber, stacks, racks, and strapping will be required).
  • Verify integrity and preservation of product.
  • Comply with all PPE requirements and ensure that external personnel on the site also comply.
  • Confer with Supervisors and operators in order to report equipment malfunctions and resolve production problems.
  • Inspect equipment to detect defects and wear as well as summarize findings and recommendations in regular reports.
  • Assist in the cleaning of machinery.
  • Perform cycle counts with radio frequency equipment as required.
  • Tally pipe as required to ensure the accuracy of shipping and receiving documents and report any damages of pipe, couplings, or thread protectors.
  • Maintain housekeeping and equipment.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Adhere to and comply with all applicable company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned for which he/she has received training, possess qualifications, and/or is considered competent.

Job Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Minimum of an Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
  • Proven written/verbal communication ability.
  • Able to perform repetitive movements and continuous heavy lifting.
  • Strong attention to detail and manual dexterity.
  • Able to work under pressure and follow deadlines.
  • Own reliable transportation.
  • Must have forklift ticket (valid or expired).
  • Ability to pass a criminal clearance check.

Shifts:

  • 12 hour rotating continental shifts.
