WE’RE LOOKING FOR A COMPOSITE SANDING TECHNICIAN
POSITION LOCATION: FORT ERIE, ONTARIO
This position reports directly to the Supervisor, Composite Prep & Paint. The Composite Sanding Technician is responsible for sanding and filling all aircraft composite panels (parts) as part of the preparation for painting and priming.
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Sanding Composite Panels:
- Pick parts from buffer rack according to the priority list prepared by the supervisor.
- Perform the sanding process in accordance with AH and AHCA specifications.
- Perform sanding processes by using air powered orbital sanders, sanding blocks, and sandpaper to sand parts.
- Once parts have been sanded, mix filling compound according to manufacturer’s specifications.
- Use spatula/putty knife to apply filler to pin holes and imperfections found on parts.
- Repeat the steps listed above at least two times to part until surface is free from imperfections.
2. Preparation/Remove surface dust:
- Use compressed air to blow off dust from sanded parts.
- Wash composite parts with recommended solvent based on specifications.
- Ensure all parts are investigated thoroughly for defects (i.e. pinholes, repair, etc) before paint.
3. Masking Parts:
- Job duties may also include applying masking tape and masking paper to unpainted areas/protected previously coated areas when necessary.
4. Departmental Involvement:
- Troubleshooting and recommendations for process/tooling/ergonomic/safety improvements.
- Foster health and safety in the workplace and knowledge of health and safety requirements.
- Demonstrate standard work practices to ensure quality standards are met.
- Ensure work areas and equipment are kept clean and neat – 5S and FOD free.
- Assist with workstation set up.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience
- Experience with sanding and prepping would be an asset.

Job Requirements
- Required to work weekly rotating shifts.
- Required to wear tyvek suit, steel toe shoes/boots, safety glasses, dust mask, and hearing protection.
