ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Supervisor, a Casual Cleaner must be available to work various scheduled shifts that include, days, afternoons, weekends and midnights to support the operational needs of Custodial Services. These casual positions provide future opportunities for full-time, permanent positions. As a Casual Cleaner, you may be scheduled 40 hours per week, when required.

Compensation: $23.59 per hour
Hours: Various scheduled shifts that include, days, afternoons, weekends, and midnights and may be scheduled up to 40 hours per week

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Clean, wash, dust, vacuum and mop both dry and wet areas of the University (walls, floors, carpets, windows, furniture, washrooms);
  • Empty and reline waste containers;
  • Clean and disinfect washrooms and restock supplies;
  • Strip, wax, and polish floors using ride-on and walk-behind floor scrubbers, floor buffing machines, and carpet extractors;
  • Operate various cleaning equipment;
  • Maintain equipment in clean and good working order;
  • Understand the safe handling and use of cleaning chemicals;
  • Maintain compliance with procedures relating to infection control and effective cleaning methods;
  • Report any damaged equipment or property in a timely manner;
  • Assist with event set-ups and tear-downs of furniture and equipment.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE:

  • A Grade 12 High School Diploma or equivalent;
  • Valid G-class Drivers License;
  • The physical ability to move and lift furniture (up to 50 lbs), and safely operate cleaning equipment (ride-on and walk-behind floor scrubbers, pressure washers, floor buffing machines, etc.);
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret job routines, product directions, and equipment instructions;
  • Flexibility to support a 24/7 operation and work a variety of shifts, including weekends;
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both written and verbal), in an appropriate manner, with fellow workers, staff, and visitors;
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment;
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous and efficient manner are necessary;
  • Previous custodial-related work experience (an asset);
  • Basic computer skills.
