One-Year Administrative Professional Position

(Pregnancy and Parental Leave Position / Temporary Position)

Niagara Community Legal Clinic is a busy agency seeking a service-oriented person with interest in challenging and meaningful work. This temporary position is full-time (five days per week) and one year in duration.  The selected temporary employee will be filling in for an employee who will be on pregnancy leave and parental leave.

NCLC is a fast-paced, dynamic organization. Our practice is in poverty law, including landlord/tenant, Ontario Disability Support Program appeals, and human rights.

Responsibilities:

  • Reception duties – making initial contact with clients, visitors and community partners who contact the clinic both in-person or by phone
  • Elicit, summarize and record intake information from clients
  • Provide basic information regarding clinic services
  • Provide appropriate referral information to various community resources
  • Providing general administrative support (including faxing, photocopying, opening mail, filing and responding to telephone calls)
  • Prepping case files for closing (drafting closing letter), closing case files and opening case files as directed by legal staff and the Office Manager
  • Providing administrative support to the Office Manager and Legal Staff as required

 

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Related post-secondary diploma or demonstrated client service experience
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and to take direction
  • Ability to work in a friendly and cooperative manner with colleagues
  • Flexibility and ability to manage competing priorities and multi-task
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Excellent computer skills (experience with Windows and Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to work in French and/or other languages an asset.
  • Particular cultural competencies sought:
    • Comfort and experience in working with poverty-affected people.
    • Comfort and experience in working with people living with mental illness and/or trauma.
    • Commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, and decolonization.

Compensation: Pursuant to the compensation rules and the Administrative Professional column on the pay grid in the NCLC collective agreement.
